| SEPTEMBER MEETING PART 1 – A TOP SECRET BRIEFING
Gary Roberson is arguably the club’s most enthusiastic James Bond fan. And not only does he enjoy 007 films, he also seeks out the imitations. He shared information about early Bond (From Russia With Love was JFK’s ninth favorite book and initially, Bond was condemned as too barbaric and violent) and distributed handouts which were sealed like a top secret file. Plus, he brought in “special guest” Heather Graham, who graciously took time from her busy career to pose with Hendo. Great Job, Gary! SEPTEMBER MEETING PART 2 – DON’T MESS WITH THA ‘DAWG

YANKEE SWAP IS ON THE HORIZON
ICS IS AT THE SENATOR
By Garyzilla A succession of white dots cross a darkened
screen, and the final one stops, expands, and enlarges into what we realize
is the telescopic scope of a sniper’s rifle. The scope slowly follows
a dark silhouette of a man across the screen. The man turns, and
in a slight crouch, draws a gun and we see the flash and hear the sound
of a pistol being fired, followed by a curtain of red, which slowly blacks
out the screen….JAMES BOND IS BACK!
OUR MAN FLINT (1966) From 20th Century Fox,
the best American takeoff of the Bond films. James Coburn, stars as
independently wealthy, jack-of-all-trades Derek Flint, who, although he
isn’t a secret agent by profession, goes on a mission to save the world,
after an assassination attempt is made on his life. Flint goes up
against GALAXY, an organization of scientists who have masterd control
of the weather. Directed by Daniel Mann, with a very cool Jerry
Goldsmith score.
If you enjoyed the presentation, or weren’t
present at the meeting, I intend to do a follow-up in September, 2005,
covering spy movies of the later years. If you’re a fan of the spy
genre, there are several excellent TV series currently running and available
on video.
I’ll tie this all up by saying that originally I had intended to do a presentation on the Bond movies, themselves. However, with the 40th anniversary of 007 last year, there is a wealth of material out there, both in print and on the Bond DVD’s, that encompasses so much more than I could possibly cover in a short amount of time. There has never been a better time than now for Bond and spy movie fans, as far as availability of resourses. I invite any comments or inquiries, although they may just endanger your life!!!!! And as Dirk Bogarde said in one of my favorite spy films, AGENT
008 ¾.,
Can you solve the Bond puzzle - who said what in the movie GOLDFINGER…
“I never joke about my work, 007”. “My dear girl, there are some things that just aren't done, such as drinking Dom Perignon '53 above the temperature of 38 degrees Fahrenheit. That's just as bad as listening to the Beatles without earmuffs!” “Don't touch that!...That's my lunch!” “My name is Pussy Galore”
“Man has climbed Mount Everest, gone to the bottom of the ocean. He's
fired rockets at the Moon, split the atom, achieved miracles in every field
of human endeavor... except crime!”
A HALLOWEEN CELEBRATION ALL MONTH LONG!
a) throwing in commercial announcements every ten minutes. b)editing, truncating, time-compressing, and otherwise changing the movies it shows, even though it is a cable channel. c)repeating itself ad nauseum... STILL…I decided to get on the web site and see what they're running during Halloween week. I actually found a few older titles that may be of interest to our members in between their showings of Halloween 5 three or four times a day. Below is a partial listing of titles being shown on AMC from October 26-November 1. As of the time of this writing, the web site's schedule was incomplete and somewhat lacking in production information, other than airtime and running time. If you have access, I recommend everyone to get on the website, www.amctv.com, for further details as the time grows nearer. For titles that run several times during the week, I have only listed each title once. For example, AMC is running Halloween II, III, IV, and V quite a bit on Halloween (just like last year) but each of those films is running earlier in the week during prime-time, therefore there is no listing for it that day. Good luck to all, and happy watching....

| ENTERPRISE’S CAPTAIN SPEAKS OUT
Scott Bakula, star of UPN's ENTERPRISE said that his character, Capt. Jonathan Archer, gets more driven as the third season begins. "I wouldn't say expect a more vengeful captain, but certainly a captain who is more focused, more driven, less willing to compromise," Bakula said. "There's a great sense of purpose that surrounds the whole show right now. It's very energized and very exciting." Archer is leading the crew of the Enterprise into the Delphic Expanse, a dangerous region of space, in pursuit of the Xindi, a mysterious race of aliens who launched an attack on Earth at the end of last season. Bakula added that it's doubtful Archer will see much romance this season. "[It] doesn't look like Capt. Archer will ever get laid in space," he said, with tongue in cheek. "And I'm OK with that. I just plan on taking it out on the Xindi." SARK CUTS IT SHORT

| TEENS AND TITANS – BUT NOT THE TEEN TITANS
New Line has bought the fantasy movie pitch Titans and set Michael France (Hulk) to write the script. The film is a coming-of-age story about a group of teens who just happen to be the future gods of Mount Olympus. The central figures are Zeus, Hera, Hades and Poseidon, and the teens must embrace their powers soon, because the planet is being ransacked by the Titans, who consist of unsavory figures such as Kronos and Lucifer. Gary Foster is producing with his Horseshoe Bay Productions partner Mark Steven Johnson (Daredevil). Eryl Cochran, who was acting temporarily as Foster's assistant, suggested the idea. | Brianne Murphy, the first female director of photography invited
to join the American Society of Cinematographers, has died at 70.
After moving to Hollywood, she met low-budget horror film producer Jerry Warren, whom she later married and divorced. Warren offered Murphy a $50-a-week job handling props, makeup, hair, wardrobe, script and stills on the 1956 film MAN BEAST . She even wore the furry costume of an abominable snowman in a couple of scenes but was too short for the rubber suit of the MAN BEAST. When the director of photography volunteered to take over wearing the suit, she told Fangoria in an interview, he handed his light meter to Murphy, who had been picking his brain about his job, and said she would have to shoot the scene. A career was born. Murphy worked on three more pictures for Warren, THE INCREDIBLE PETREFIED WORLD, TEENAGE ZOMBIES and HOUSE OF THE BLACK DEATH , but didn’t get a director of cinematography credit until the 1980 Anne Bancroft film, FATSO. “This woman was a pioneer, and she certainly raised the bar for women in this field”, said Judy Irola, a director of photography, an ASC member and the head of cinematography at USC's School of Cinema-Television. “She did something that nobody had done before”, Irola said. “Women had directed, but women weren't seen as serious technicians”. Charles Bronson, who starred as Roger Corman’s MACHINE GUN KELLY
and was one of THE MGNIFICENT SEVEN and THE DIRTY DOZEN, has died.

cause for sorrow among many film fans, but as these things are inclined
to do occasionally, it set me to thinking about someone else entirely.
His name is Walter Hill, and he's still alive. Thank goodness.
